Common Questions

Where is my data stored?

Your questions, favorites, checklist progress, and pack settings are stored locally on your iPhone in a private database that no other app can read. Nothing is sent to our servers. If you uninstall the app, your data is permanently deleted.

Does the app work without an internet connection?

Yes — that's the point. After the first launch (which downloads the on-device language model and the bundled starter pack), no network connection is needed to ask questions or read entries. You only go online to browse new packs in the catalog or install one.

Is the AI sending my questions to a server?

No. The language model runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's Metal GPU framework. There is no cloud fallback — when you ask a question, both retrieval and generation happen on your device. See our privacy policy for details.

How do I restore a paid pack on a new device?

Open Settings → About → Restore purchases. The app talks to the App Store (with your existing Apple ID) and re-grants access to any packs you've previously bought. You can then install them from the Packs tab without paying again.

The app is taking up too much space — can I shrink it?

The on-device language model is the largest single file (~950 MB). Tap Settings → Storage → Free up space to remove it; it'll re-download the next time you ask a question. Installed packs are small (typically under 200 KB each).

Can I trust the Wilderness First Aid pack in a real emergency?

Offline Knowledge is a general reference, not professional medical advice. The Wilderness First Aid pack is intended for context and pre-incident preparation — not as a replacement for trained first-aid responders. In a real emergency, contact emergency services first.

How do I delete all my data?

Uninstall the app. Since no data is stored on our servers, uninstalling is a complete deletion. To clear only the on-device language model while keeping your favorites, use Settings → Storage → Free up space.
